Crane Operator
As a Crane Operator, you will be responsible for operating a variety of cranes to lift, move, position, stack and reposition bundles of wood components, heavy materials, and equipment on construction sites with precision and care. You will work along side other heavy equipment such as genie lifts and telehandlers.
Your primary objective will be to ensure the safe & efficient operation of the crane while adhering to all relevant safety regulations & protocols. You will ensure the timely & accurate placement of bundles, collaborating closely with the construction team to facilitate smooth workflow & adherence to project schedules.
The crane operator’s duties and responsibilities include:
• Operate different types of cranes, including but not limited to self erect cranes, roto telehandler, and tele-handlers, according to job requirements and specifications.
• Perform pre-operational inspection, calculate crane capacities & weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting.
• Safely & efficiently unload bundles of wood components from trailers & trucks. Carefully place them onsite according to instructions.
• Assists install crew when needed & prepare for building erection.
• Keep continuous communication with install crew for safe & efficient operating day to day.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Operate crane to lift & relocate various materials & bundles around the job site.
• Interpret and follow work orders, lifting plans, and signals from ground personnel or colleagues to position loads safely and accurately.
• Establish methods to meet construction work schedules.
• Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity.
• Conduct pre-operational checks on the crane to ensure it is in proper working condition, including inspecting cables, hooks, controls, and other components.
• Safely maneuver loads using hand signals, radio communication, or other designated methods, while maintaining clear communication with ground personnel and colleagues.
• Monitor and adjust crane operations as necessary to ensure stability, balance, and proper load distribution.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on the crane as needed and report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
• Follow all safety guidelines, regulations, and best practices to prevent accidents, injuries, or damage to property.
• Keep accurate records of daily activities, including lift logs, maintenance reports, and equipment inspections.
• Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and drills to enhance safety awareness and compliance among the team.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, including the crane cab and surrounding areas, to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
Some qualifications for the Crane Operator
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional vocational or technical training in crane operation preferred.
• Valid crane operator certification or license issued by a recognized authority.
• Proven experience operating various types of cranes in a construction, industrial, or similar setting.
• Strong knowledge of crane operation techniques, safety procedures, and industry standards.
• Ability to interpret lifting plans, load charts, and other technical documents.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and depth perception.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the job, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
